Local MP Todd Muller is welcoming today’s announcement of a further $6 million investment in Bay of Plenty schools to accommodate growing rolls now and into the future.
This $6 million investment is in addition to the $33 million already announced in Budget 2017 for the Bay of Plenty region.
Tauranga Boys’ College will receive 9 new classrooms, and Te Kura o Matapihi will receive 3 new classrooms.
“It’s great to see Te Kura o Matapihi being supported to grow as they are the only local option for Māori-medium education. They are desperately in need of extra classroom capacity and I know this announcement will be welcomed by the kura and wider community”
“Over the past term our region has experienced an unprecedented level of investment in our educational capacity” Mr Muller said.
“The National Government have kept true to our promise to continue investing in areas experiencing high growth such as Tauranga” he added.
“Budget 2017 has delivered for our city in a major way, with the Bay of Plenty region seeing a new school, a school expansion in Papamoa, and 27 new and replacement classrooms across six local schools”.
“This builds on last year’s Budget 2016 investment of $23.2 million for 14 roll-growth classrooms and a brand new school for Pyes Pa”.
“This brings the total Bay of Plenty investment over the past two Budgets to over $60 million”
