MP welcomes TCC’s $400k support for new cycle path
Locals and visitors to the Bay of Plenty will soon be able to enjoy a new cycle path connecting Omokoroa with Tauranga city after local councillors confirmed their willingness to co-fund the operation, says local MP Todd Muller.
“I am thrilled to see this come through as the mass of local support and advocacy from local MPs combined to ultimately tip the Tauranga City Council in favour of this initiative”, says Todd Muller.
“Although there was a stage in May when it appeared the cycle trail would not receive additional funding from the council, the community’s response and resolve has been outstanding.
“We have had bike protests and local service club The Tauranga Roundtable offered $100,000 to convince the council of its value to the community.
“I am grateful for everyone who has gotten involved in this initiative – from the bike peddling protestors to the councillors as they have demonstrated why our community is so strong.”
