Todd Muller welcomes US vote
Local Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller welcomed news overnight that the US legislature has passed fast track authority to enable the President to negotiate a TPP free trade deal. The US, Canada, Japan and nine other countries including New Zealand can now enter the end stage of negotiations.
“This is great news. Now we know the players round the table can cut a deal, so it’s now incumbent on them to progress a highly ambitious outcome”, says Todd Muller.
“We have seen big benefits for local Bay business and growers through the China and Korea free trade deals, and now it is time for the markets of Japan, USA, Canada and the TPP group to open themselves up to freer trade”.
“Our exporters do well slogging uphill in many markets, so imagine the opportunities that will emerge if the playing field levels”, says Todd Muller.
“I am a great backer of free trade and its benefits for the Bay. These negotiations will be tough, for sure, but the opportunities are enormous and I look forward with some optimism to a comprehensive outcome”.
