Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller has welcomed the announcement from Building and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith that Cabinet today approved two new Special Housing Areas (SHAs) at Papamoa and Ohauiti.

“This is fantastic news for the Bay with these two SHAs facilitating 210 new homes. This is in addition to our seven other SHAs already announced earlier this year,” says Mr Muller.

The Special Housing Areas announced to date in the Bay of Plenty have a combined potential yield of more than 1900 homes.

The two new areas announced today are:

  • Sunshine Paradise – Domain Road, Papamoa: 36 homes, 0.6 hectares
  • Adler Drive, Ohauiti: 180 homes, 20.95 hectares

“More and more people are moving here as they discover the Bay of Plenty is a terrific place to live with abundant opportunities.

“The Government recognises we’re one of the fasted growing cities in New Zealand and these SHAs will help to house our expanding population.”

“I acknowledge Tauranga City Council and the Western Bay of Plenty District Council for their collaborative work with the Government on advancing these SHAs,” says Mr Muller.
