TPP good for growers
Kiwifruit growers will be on average $6,000 better off each year thanks to export tariffs removed through the Trans Pacific Partnership, says local MP Todd Muller.
“That equates to a $15 million gain by the kiwifruit industry which provides our region so much economic and job stability”, Todd Muller says.
In total the horticultural industry will see $26 million worth of savings on all fruit and vegetables, including kiwifruit, apples, avocados, squash and capsicum, vegetable juices, and onions.
“The benefits are significant. We can expect volume and value growth as the agreement comes into force, so these numbers are very conservative.
“The TPP will be worth $259 million to the New Zealand economy when fully implemented and hasn’t compromised our Pharmac model or national law-making ability, making this agreement a fantastic win for our region”, says Todd Muller.
