Kicking off a great year

Omokoroa has been a hub of activity so far this year and I have really enjoyed my time in the community. The community is growing and with that there are a number of exciting things happening.

I had the privilege of attending the opening of the Omokoroa Fresh Choice on the 10th of February and what a fantastic day it was. The local supermarket is already well connected and has huge support from the community much like the other businesses in the area. The Fresh Choice will be a great addition to the community. The connectedness that the members of this community have is great to see and needs to be encouraged because it’s what makes Omokoroa special.

We have started the year in good shape with unemployment in the Bay down to down to 6.2 per cent in the recent December 2015 statistics. Our visitor numbers are also up from last year with a 7.8 per cent rise in guest nights. This shows how popular our region is and it is important because tourism is supports jobs both locally and around the country.

The Omokoroa Future Focus Public Meeting is coming up on 20th April where we will discuss developments to the local roading issues. All are welcome to come to the Omokroa Settler’s Hall at 7pm and listen and share their views.

You’ll be able to drop by my mobile office and chat at the local Omokoroa Settler’s Hall on every third Monday of the month from 9am-12pm. Swing by and have a chat – no appointment necessary.

I look forward to seeing you out and about this year!
