Today Todd Muller, MP for the Bay of Plenty accompanied Hon Nick Smith to his visit to the site of the proposed Omokoroa housing development.

“It's a fast growing area, so it makes sense to see Government, local council and well respected developers working together to facilitate housing that will fit seamlessly into the community.

“My job remains focused on ensuring the supporting roading and community infrastructure grows in tandem,” said Mr Muller.

“National already has a wide programme of work underway to improve housing supply and affordability including freeing up more land faster, measures to constrain building material costs, rein in development contributions, and cut compliance costs, and investment in sector skills and productivity, as well as help for first-home buyers. So it is great to see that the Western Bay of Plenty has achieved the first year accords target and can now begin to assess two new Special Housing Areas,” said Todd.

“Improving housing affordability provides Kiwi families with the opportunity to get ahead, and is an important part of National’s plan to build a more competitive and productive economy.
