Trade figures release today show spectacular growth in New Zealand’s exports to Chinese Taipei, says local MP Todd Muller.

“Bay of Plenty cherry and kiwifruit exporters both saw increases of 150 per cent and 24 per cent respectively since 2013, bringing a welcome lift for growers”, says Todd Muller.

The Bay of Plenty had the highest, and only statistically significant, annual employment growth in the country of 6.1 per cent, according the latest market statistics by Statistics NZ.

Lifting employment, incomes and investment across the region is at the centre of a new action plan announced today by Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy.

The key to growing the Bay of Plenty economy is in harnessing its natural resources, according to the Regional Economic Activity Report released last week.

“Forestry and wood processing, horticulture and agriculture stand out as major opportunities for local industry to develop”, says local MP Todd Muller.
